Week 15 of 52 – Grand Canyon-Phoenix-Palm Springs-Beverly Hills – Jan 30, 2012 – 166lbs

It’s been a pretty junky week food wise; some fast food stuff, some Mexican food and snacking.  But I’ve felt pretty good and my energy level seems to coming back.

The Grand Canyon

Our travels took us to the Grand Canyon-the most amazing place in North America in my opinion. I had never been before and was simply blown away by the grandeur of this magnificent natural wonder. The skies were clear blue, the temperature was fine and the snow around just added to the beauty. Once again we lucked out with the weather and had a great time walking the rim trail. I got a little tired but I think it was because of the altitude, not the walking.

My first photo with these old friends where I wasn’t the fattest one!

We went on to see some friends in Phoenix and Palm Springs and are now here in Beverly Hills.  It feels so good to be seeing these friends and not just getting complimented on how I look, but also just to feel like a normal person and not self-conscious about my weight. I don’t mind having my photo taken anymore….(no more cropping!) and I seem to be able to eat things most of the time in mixed company without anybody commenting on it.

I seem to be losing slowly right now and I’M VERY HAPPY ABOUT THAT! I know that probably seems odd since I have another 30lbs to lose….but if I lose one lb a week from here on out, that will be just fine with me.

First, I’m hoping it will keep my hair from falling out.

Second, I’m getting really flabby and lose skin on my arms and I need to get ‘home’ so I can start a regular strengthening program.

Third, (and I don’t know if any one else feels this way), but because I was so heavy for so long, I feel thin even at 166 lbs and I’m concerned about how I will look when I lose more weight.  My husband (who has been slender all his life) doesn’t quite understand this, but I need time for my head to catch up with my body.  And I’m really concerned about wrinkles….so far things are looking pretty good in that department.

That’s it for this week….we are about to head out for dinner and the theater with our dear friends who own a fabulous home built in the 30’s just a few blocks from all the fancy streets in Beverly Hills.  We are so fortunate to have such GREAT friends!

Hope everyone has a great week!

I’m a slow loser, which has never bothered me. I actually was hoping for that. I also have been worried about wrinkles, but so far my neck has sustained the worst damage and my face still looks okay. I’m about 10 lb from goal btw, and just over 11 mos post-op; have lost ~88 lb. Seems like you’re doing really well!

Thanks for responding…I appreciate all your responses…..congratulations on almost reaching goal! Did you ever have any problems with your falling out?

Yes, my hair started falling out at like 3-4 months post-op and kept falling out in alarming amounts until about 8 months out. It’s still not great, but it’s not coming out in clumps anymore. Now it’s just dry and thin and not very attractive LOL. But I am not too fussed, it will grow back (I’ve lost loads of hair before from thyroid issues…it always comes back…whew!). 🙂

OMG…..I am SO freaking out about this……I am just now between 3-4 months……I guess I should just get prepared…..you have such a good attitude about this…..I think this will be the hardest part for me…

Hello! I just wanted to say you look fantastic (adorable!) in the photo with you, your hubby and gal pal. I am really getting serious about this. Unfortunately, my partner is not supportive (I think he fears me getting a new lease on life) like your husband is, but I know I need to do this for myself. I called Dr. Wiener’s office today and just need to make a consultation date. I’m so thrilled for you, you really do look great! : )

Thanks Kali! And congratulations on getting your appointment with Dr. Weiner. I thought they were all great; although Dr. Weiner is like most surgeons; not very chatty; and very direct. Can’t wait to follow YOUR progress!

BTW, the guy in the photo is not my husband, but a dear friend and his lovely wife. My husband is tall and slender! Only 6 more lbs and I will finally weigh less than him! I do hope your partner becomes supportive; without the love and encouragement of my husband this would not have happened. I owe him so much. And yes, you will change, but the biggest change is you will be so much healthier. Keep me posted.
